This quote means that in life in order to be successful and go far you need to have goals. You need to have a goal in order to be motivated to accomplish your goal. You have  to think about how badly you want it. In football there wouldn't be a point in the game if you didn't have goalposts. People wouldn't even try because what would be the point? You can do anything to set your mind to. As long as you try hard and work hard for it. They key is to not give up and to have goals. If you have goals in your life , and you accomplish them you will go far in life.
